Pune, 19th August 2025: With continuous rainfall in the catchment areas and a rapid rise in water levels, the irrigation department on Tuesday morning began releasing water from the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha riverbed.

According to officials, at 8 am, 2,178 cusecs of water were released, followed by 4,170 cusecs at 9 am. The discharge levels may be further revised depending on the rainfall intensity and weather conditions.

“We have started controlled discharge from Khadakwasla Dam due to the sharp increase in water levels. The situation will be monitored closely, and the release may be reduced or increased depending on rainfall in the catchment area,” said Mohan Shantaram Bhadane, Sub-Divisional Engineer, Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division, Pune.

Residents living along the Mutha riverbanks have been advised to remain cautious and avoid venturing near the riverbed as water levels may rise suddenly.
