Kharadi, 11th April 2022: In a shocking incident, Kothari International CBSE School in Kharadi allegedly locked a student of standard 4th in a classroom as his parents failed to pay fees on time.

The incident took place on April 4 when the school reopened after the Coronavirus disease (COVID) pandemic. As soon as he entered the classroom, the staff took him to another room that had toys and books and locked him there. The little boy banged on the door and shouted for help but nobody came to his help. The ordeal lasted for about five hours and he was released in the afternoon. In between, the staff had brought a girl also but she was released soon because she was continuously crying.

The boy’s father said that he had rushed to the school after getting a call that his son will not be allowed to attend classes pending fees. He was asked to take away his son. The incident came to light when he went to bring his son back from school.

When he confronted the school administration they told him to either pay the fees or take a school leaving certificate. “They told me that they had sent many emails but could not show me any as they do not have my email id”, he said.

After he posted the incident in a parents’ group, he learnt that there were many students who were harassed in a similar manner. He thought of filing a police complaint but refrained after advice from other parents who asked him to get a written apology from the principal. However, she refused to give any apology letter.

The administration apologised verbally only after a group of parents and activists went to the school to protest on Saturday. The school promised not to indulge in such behaviour in future.

When contacted Rakesh Khare, who is head of administration at the school, refuted the allegations. “No such thing took place in the school. We treat all our students with love, and no one was locked in a room or starved. The parent who has made these claims had asked for a school leaving certificate which was provided”, he added.
