Pune, 27th June 2026: The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has initiated the process of appointing contractors for two Metro corridors under Pune Metro Phase 2, marking the next step towards extending the network to Sinhagad Road and Karve Road.

The proposed corridors include an 11-km elevated stretch from Dandekar Bridge to Khadakwasla with eight stations and a nearly 6-km elevated line from SNDT Chowk to Warje-Manikbaug with six stations. Together, the two routes will add around 17 km to the Metro network.

Maha Metro has begun preliminary surveys, including station locations and viaduct alignment, ahead of floating tenders. Both projects received final approval from the Union government last year.

Officials said the Dandekar Bridge-Khadakwasla corridor forms part of the larger Kharadi-Hadapsar-Swargate-Khadakwasla Metro route. The decision to take up this section first indicates that the larger corridor will be implemented in phases, with separate tenders to be issued later for the Hadapsar stretch.

The projects will undergo administrative clearances over the coming months before contracts are awarded. Construction is expected to be completed within three-and-a-half years from the date work orders are issued.

Commuters on Sinhagad Road and Karve Road welcomed the move, saying the Metro is expected to ease chronic traffic congestion and provide a faster, more reliable mode of transport.
