Mumbai/Pune, 28th August 2025: In a major boost to higher education, the Maharashtra government has approved a new satellite campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur at Moshi in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The project will come up on a 70-acre plot, making Pune the latest destination to host one of India’s premier management institutes.

The decision follows several rounds of high-level discussions chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur over the past year. Officials confirmed that the land allocation at Moshi will help fast-track the development of the new centre, bringing world-class management education to Pune’s thriving industrial belt.

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule described the initiative as both symbolic and significant. “It is fitting that on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, we are laying the foundation of a project that will shape future leaders. Pimpri-Chinchwad is already a major industrial and residential hub with excellent connectivity to Mumbai and Pune, and the presence of IIM Nagpur here will add to its prestige,” he said.

Often called the ‘Oxford of the East,’ Pune is home to leading universities, research centres, IT hubs, and auto-manufacturing clusters. Officials believe the new IIM campus will attract students from across India, encourage innovation, and strengthen industry-academia collaborations in the region.

“With 21 IIMs already operational nationwide, Maharashtra is proud to host two — in Nagpur and Mumbai. The Pimpri-Chinchwad campus will add further momentum to management education in the state,” said a senior government source.

The proposed satellite campus is expected to generate opportunities in teaching, research, and entrepreneurship, while also contributing to the region’s intellectual and economic growth.
