Pune: Man Arrested in Chakan for Allegedly Insulting Indian National Flag
Chakan, 20th April 2026: A 29-year-old man has been arrested by Pimpri Chinchwad Police for allegedly insulting the national flag of India in Chakan area of Pune district. The incident took place on April 16 around 4:30 pm at Thakarvasti Chowk.
The accused has been identified as Asif Sheikh (29), currently residing in Chakan and originally from Delhi. A case has been registered against him under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act.
According to police officials, the complaint was filed by Rajneesh Sitaram Rajbhar (31), a resident of Nanekarwadi in Khed. Rajbhar runs a vegetable shop in the Thakarvasti area of Chakan.
Police said the accused had previously worked at a nearby chicken shop close to the complainant’s store but had left the job about a year ago. On April 16, Sheikh allegedly arrived near Rajbhar’s shop in an inebriated state carrying the Indian national flag. He then allegedly disrespected the flag in a public place.
Upon witnessing the incident, Rajbhar immediately alerted the police. Acting swiftly, South Chakan Police detained and later arrested the accused.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
