Pune, 26th March 2026: Pune’s long-awaited Metro Line 3, connecting the IT hub of Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, is approaching completion, marking a significant step forward in the city’s urban transport network.

According to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the project has reached approximately 94.20% completion, placing it in its final phase ahead of partial operations.

The corridor links the busy Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park with Shivajinagar, one of Pune’s key commercial centres. Once operational, it is expected to reduce travel time significantly along one of the city’s most congested routes.

Project Highlights:
-The first phase, covering 12 stations, is expected to be opened to commuters by May 2026
-Advanced signalling systems and safety checks have been completed, including clearances from Research Designs and Standards Organisation and Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety
-The corridor is being developed as India’s first metro project under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model
-Travel between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar is set to become faster, safer, and more efficient

The Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar stretch currently faces heavy traffic due to daily movement of IT professionals and office-goers. Officials believe the metro line will help decongest roads while improving connectivity across major employment and residential zones.

Urban planners also highlight the project’s potential to promote sustainable mobility by reducing dependence on private vehicles and lowering carbon emissions.

With final works underway, Metro Line 3 is expected to transform daily commuting patterns in Pune, offering a modern, reliable alternative to road transport in one of the city’s busiest corridors.
