Mumbai/Pune, 7th March 2025: Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapusaheb Pathare has raised concerns about the increasing pollution in the Mula-Mutha River, calling for immediate action against contractors responsible for releasing untreated sewage and industrial effluents into the river.

During the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly’s budget session, Pathare questioned Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Maharashtra Pankaja Munde about the lack of enforcement against polluters, emphasizing that the untreated water from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad is not only harming aquatic life but also rendering the water unsuitable for irrigation. This has led to crop failures and poses health risks due to contaminated produce.

Pathare stressed the importance of ensuring that sewage treatment plants operate at full capacity and that industrial waste is properly treated before being discharged into the river. He criticized the practice of shutting down these plants at night, allowing untreated water to flow into the river.

The minister responded positively to Pathare’s demands, promising action against the contractors involved in such practices. This comes as part of broader efforts to address the severe environmental degradation affecting the Mula-Mutha River, which has been exacerbated by years of neglect and inadequate waste management.
