Pune: Mobile Phone Theft Leads To Murder Of Devotee During Ekvira Pilgrimage
Lonavala, 11th April 2022: A 49-year-old man was killed and his two friends were seriously injured in a fight that started over the suspicion of a mobile phone theft during the Ekvira pilgrimage in Lonavala on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Manoj Patil (49), a resident of Thane. Patil alongwith his friends Harshal Patil, Rahul Patil and Kartik Mhatre had come for the pilgrimage.
According to police, they were watching the performance of some street performers. Mhatre realised that his phone was missing. Manoj and his friends accused the street performers and this led to a fight between them. The street performers attacked them with sticks and sharp weapons.
During the fight, Manoj was hit multiple times with bamboo sticks and stabbed in the chest. Harshal and Rahul also sustained multiple serious injuries.
After getting information, a team from the nearby police help centre rushed to the spot but the accused had fled from the spot. Manoj succumbed to his injuries later.
After investigation, the officials from Lonavala Rural Police station and Local Crime Branch (LCB), have nabbed Praveen Patil and Ajay Patil, from Pen town of Raigad district in connection with the case.
Police Inspector Praveen More, in-charge, Lonavala Rural Police Station, said, “The two arrested persons are street performers. One of them has a criminal case registered in the Raigad district. We are looking for two more suspects in the case.”
