Pimpri, 20th June 2023: MP Shrirang Barne, from the Shiv Sena party, has initiated a silt removal drive at Pavana Dam in Pimpri, resulting in a substantial increase in water storage capacity. Over the past seven years, around 15,000 cubic meters of silt have been successfully extracted, enhancing the dam’s reservoir capacity.

This endeavor aims to alleviate water scarcity issues faced by Maval and Pimpri-Chinchwad residents. The extracted silt is being repurposed for agricultural use, benefiting local farmers.

MP Srirang Barne recently inspected the ongoing silt removal operations at Pavana Dam, accompanied by prominent figures and community members.

Pavana Dam plays a crucial role in supplying water to Pimpri-Chinchwad villages and supporting agricultural activities. Until MP Shrirang Barne took the initiative, no significant efforts had been made to increase the dam’s storage capacity since its construction in 1972. The silt removal project has successfully extracted a total of 76,000 cubic meters of silt over the years, addressing water storage limitations.

The project has significantly mitigated water scarcity for Maval and Pimpri-Chinchwad residents. The repurposed silt has found applications in local nursery and orchard businesses, benefiting the agricultural community.
