Pune Needs Two Municipal Corporations, Says Minister Chandrakant Patil

Pune, 24th December 2024: The Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh organized a dialogue program today with the newly elected MLAs from the Pune City area who were elected in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections. The event was attended by nearly all MLAs from Pune City. During the dialogue, Minister Chandrakant Patil emphasized the need for Pune to have two municipal corporations, stating that there is no alternative to this solution.
The program featured Cabinet Minister and Kothrud MLA Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State and Parvati MLA Madhuri Misal, Khadakwasla MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole, Hadapsar MLA Chetan Tupe, Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapu Pathare, along with Patrakar Sangh President Sunit Bhave and General Secretary Minakshi Gurav.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Patil said, “Having a single municipal corporation in Pune city is no longer viable. Certain parts of the city need to be divided, taking into account the political, social, and geographical aspects of the region. Delaying this decision is not an option. PMRDA is not a municipal corporation, and given the current scenario, there is no choice but to establish two separate municipal corporations for Pune.” Patil also highlighted how the Mahayuti Government has accelerated development projects in the district.
MLA Bapu Pathare announced plans for a new road from Warje to Theur along the riverside to address traffic issues. He also proposed rehabilitating slum dwellers on government land and repurposing the cleared land for public use.
State Minister Madhuri Misal pledged to prioritize expedited development in Pune District. She emphasized resolving issues in the newly included villages within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Highlighting the need for an embankment in the Katraj area to address the water needs of the growing population, she said, “Considering the increasing population, the next phase of planning will be undertaken.”
MLA Bhimrao Tapkir focused on the delay in road projects, advocating for the use of a credit note option to expedite their completion. He assured regular follow-ups on issues affecting the newly added villages in the PMC and other civic concerns.
MLA Chetan Tupe stressed addressing key issues such as traffic, water supply, health, law and order, education, sports, environment, and cleanliness. He emphasized the importance of planning specific schemes to tackle these challenges effectively.
MLA Siddharth Shirole provided an update on the Pune University Flyover, announcing its expected completion and public opening within the next 2–3 months, which would ease traffic congestion in the area. He also mentioned progress on the Ring Road project being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Shirole highlighted that the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro would become operational next year.
