Pune: Objection Committee Submits Proposed DP Report To PMRDA, Recommends Reservation Of Hills
Pune, 4th April 2023: The committee appointed to hear objections to the proposed Development Plan (DP) of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has submitted its report to the PMRDA. The committee has made over 23 recommendations in this report, including maintaining the reservation of Hill Top, Hill Slope and maintaining the number of reservations for infrastructure.
PMRDA announced the draft development plan in August 2021 and invited objections. Around 67,000 citizens filed objections. Due to Covid-19, the work on this plan was stopped, resulting in the government extending the deadline. In December 2021, the Maharashtra state government appointed a committee of experts to hear the filed objections. The committee began hearing objections-suggestions in March 2022 and completed the hearing in December 2022. In January, the committee conducted a hearing with institutional and public representatives on the plan, completing the hearing in two important phases. The scheme expired on 31st March, and the planning committee submitted this report to the authority along with feedback before that.
The DP report will be submitted to the Metropolitan Planning Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The planning committee will approve the plan, and after that, it will be submitted to the state government for approval.
Rahul Mahiwal, Commissioner of PMRDA, said, “The committee appointed to hear the objections filed on the draft plan released by PMRDA has submitted to the authority. The authority will submit this report to the Metropolitan Planning Committee soon. After getting their approval, it will be sent to the state government.”
This development plan covers an area of about 7,000 square kilometers, including 814 villages of the Pune district, which is approximately 60 percent of the total area. The plan models the development of 233 villages through 18 Urban Growth Centers within PMRDA, covering an area of 1,638 square kilometers. The rest of the rural areas will be developed through eight growth centers, with at least five to 24 villages included in each growth center.
