Pune: Parents Demand Launch of Class 9 and 10 at PMC School No. 204B
Sinhagad Road, 1st July 2025: Parents gathered at Pune Municipal Corporation’s School No. 204B in Vadgaon Budruk on Sinhagad Road on Monday, demanding the immediate commencement of Classes 9 and 10 after nearly 30 students were left without admission for the 2025–26 academic year.
Sharadchandra Pawar E-Learning School, an English-medium facility operating within the PMC system, currently offers classes only up to Class 8. Despite repeated appeals from parents since October 2024, no action has been taken to start higher classes. Parents had even submitted memorandums to MP Supriya Sule, but have yet to receive a response.
With the new academic year having begun on June 16, these students have been unable to secure admission to Class 9 elsewhere and now face the risk of dropping out. Frustrated parents warned they would be forced to stage a protest in front of the school if their demands were not met promptly.
“Our children studied here until Class 8 and cannot get admission anywhere else. Now the school year has started, but our Class 9 children are still sitting at home,” said one parent.
Another pointed out that the municipal printing press currently occupies classrooms in the school building. Parents argued that vacating four of these rooms could easily make space for Classes 9 and 10.
Meanwhile, Deputy Municipal Commissioner for Education Vijaykumar Thorat assured that a decision has been made to start Class 9 soon to prevent these students from losing their academic year.
