Hinjawadi, 1st July 2025: Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Metropolitan Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), conducted an inspection of Pune’s IT hub, Hinjawadi, amid growing public outrage over deteriorating civic infrastructure. Residents have criticized the PMRDA, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and local gram panchayats for persistent issues including severe traffic congestion, poor road conditions, waterlogging, and erratic water supply. These ongoing problems have led to increasing demands for Hinjawadi’s merger with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

During his visit, Dr. Mhase focused on the incomplete road connecting Wipro Circle to Marunji, a project initiated in 2022 but stalled due to land disputes. While over 2 km of the 2.5 km stretch has been completed, the final 300 meters remain unfinished due to opposition from land claimants, which has led to clashes with contractors and work stoppages. Residents emphasize the road’s importance in easing traffic, especially towards Bhumkar Chowk and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Addressing the media, Dr. Mhase said, “The tender for this 2.5 km road was issued in 2022. However, the last 300 meters connecting to Wipro Circle is still incomplete, making the entire road unusable. This has worsened traffic conditions. Starting tomorrow, with police deployment, work will resume and be completed within the next eight days. The GSB-level road will be laid, and all encroachments, including tea stalls, will be removed. Those claiming land ownership must submit proper documentation. Anyone attempting to obstruct government work will face strict action.”

Dr. Mhase added, “There isn’t just one issue in Hinjawadi, multiple issues persist. The natural drainage channels have been blocked, which is the main reason for waterlogging. Ongoing Metro work has further contributed to the problem. Some of these issues fall under PMRDA’s purview, others under MIDC’s.”

Regarding waterlogging, he noted, “We identified 15 waterlogging points and instructed the responsible entities to resolve them 15 days ago. While most have complied, a few have yet to act. In the last review meeting, PMRDA and MIDC issued stop-work orders to 12 companies and developers. If they continue to disregard directives, FIRs will be filed. All encroachments on natural drainage paths will be cleared, and strict measures will be enforced.”

Meanwhile, residents continue to push for immediate and lasting solutions, with growing consensus that Hinjawadi’s inclusion under PCMC governance is necessary for improved civic administration.
