Pune: PCMC Conducts Mock Drill to Enhance Disaster Management Preparedness

Pimpri, 19th April 2023: A sudden ‘fire’ broke out in a room near the General Administration Department on the fourth floor of the main administrative building of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) at around 3 pm. As the smoke started to increase, the officials working in Disaster Management immediately coordinated and alerted all the concerned systems without delay.

As soon as the notification was received, all systems were activated. The Fire Brigade team reached the spot, and 650 employees and citizens present in the PCMC building came out of the building in just eight minutes. Soon, the fire in the building was brought under control.

On the occasion of ‘National Safety Week’, an Emergency Rescue Training: Fire Mock Drill was organized in the main administrative building of the Municipal Corporation at Pimpri to ensure the security of the government office. A mock drill was conducted on 19th April to learn about emergency coordination and rescue operations of the systems available to deal with an emergency in an office building. Firefighters, police, security forces, building officials, staff, and citizens participated in the mock drill.

Three vehicles from the fire brigade, two firefighter motorbikes, two ambulances, and two water tankers were used in this mock drill while fire, security, police, and disaster management personnel participated in it.
Vitthal Joshi, Deputy Commissioner, and Incident Commander informed that as soon as the fire was reported in the municipal building, the fire extinguishing system was activated, and instructions were given to them.

“A marshal assigned to each floor checked all the corridors of the office and instructed the attendees to leave the building. 627 officers and 40 civilians present in the building were safely evacuated within 8.3 minutes. The power supply was cut as a precaution. Meanwhile, within three minutes, the fire brigade arrived at the spot along with water tanks. Ambulances also arrived. The entire fire was brought under control within 15 to 20 minutes,” he added.
