Pimpri Chinchwad, 1st June 2024: The Maharashtra State Government’s Land Record Department (Mahabhumi) has commenced the task of outlining the red zone boundary in Pimpri Chinchwad city, employing precise calculations using satellite imagery. This endeavour is anticipated to conclude within approximately a month. Prasad Gaikwad, Deputy Director of the Town Planning Department at Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), has said that an accurate map with distinct and explicit red zone borders will be available within this timeframe.
In Pimpri Chinchwad, areas such as Talawade, Triveni Nagar, Rupee Nagar, Yamuna Nagar, Ravet, Kiwale, Chikhali, Dighi, Bhosari, Wadmukhwadi, Charholi, Dudulgaon, and Bopkhel are impacted by the red zone designation. Additionally, regions housing Indian Army establishments, including Sangvi, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Nilakh, Pimple Gurav, Kasarwadi, Dapodi, and Phugewadi, are affected. Ordnance Factory Dehu Road and Dighi Magazine Depot have also been designated as red zones, where construction activities are prohibited, leading to thousands of illegal constructions due to unclear red zone boundaries.
The red zone boundary extends 2 thousand yards (approximately 1.82 km) from the outer boundary wall of Ordnance Factory Dehu Road and 1 thousand 145 meters from Dighi Magazine Depot, with strict restrictions on construction activities. This situation has adversely affected numerous families in the Pimpri Chinchwad area, prompting demands for clarity on the red zone boundaries from citizens. The Department of Defence has authorized the boundary calculation, which the PCMC has undertaken after paying a total fee of 1,13,67,300 rupees to the Land Records Department.
Following the outlining of the red zone boundary, prominent markers will be installed by the PCMC with assistance from the Department of Defence. The Land Records Department has commenced the enumeration process using satellite imagery, capturing all properties, constructions, open spaces, roads, trees, and other features from the outer boundaries of Ordnance Factory Dehu Road and Dighi Magazine Depot to the specified boundaries.
Deputy Director of PCMC’s Town Planning Department Prasad Gaikwad said, “The enumeration of the red zone boundary has been initiated by the Land Records Department of the Maharashtra State Government. This task will be completed within a week, paving the way for the PCMC to possess an accurate red zone map within a month.”
