Pune: PMC Plans To Convert Baner Covid Facility Into General Hospital That Will Be Run By A Private Operator
Pune, 13th October 2022: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) intends to turn the now de-functional Baner Specialized Covid facility into a general hospital that would be managed by a private company.
Civic officials announced that the 200-bed hospital, which was closed a few months ago due to a decline in Covid cases, will soon begin the tendering process. “We want to utilize the ready infrastructure for the benefit of the general public. The Baner facility will be put under the management of private hospitals,” said PMC additional commissioner Ravindra Binawade.
Fears of a third wave of Covid led to the establishment of the Covid hospital. The six-story, Rs 12-crore structure can accommodate 209 beds, including 62 ICU beds. CSR funds were used to start the project. The administration area, observation center, control room, and pharmacy are all located on the ground floor. There are 31 ICU units on each of the first and second levels, and 49 oxygen beds on each of the third, fourth, and fifth floors. The two oxygen production units at the facility have a combined capacity of 1,050 liters per minute, and their storage tank can hold 13 kg of liquid medical oxygen.
The infrastructure may now be redirected to assist general patients, according to Dr. Sanjeev Wavare, the PMC’s assistant medical officer, as the number of Covid cases has decreased. “The task of staffing the hospital will be carried out by a private organization. Citizens will have access to treatments at government rates. In three months, the new hospital is anticipated to open,” added Dr. Wavare.
The average Covid-19 hospitalization rate in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) has remained below 100 for the past two weeks, according to health data. According to officials, the number of patients hospitalized in PMC hospitals is considerably lower.
