Pune, May 26, 2021: The number of Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patients is seen declining in the city. However, the risk of Mucormycosis has increased. The number of patients with this disease is increasing day by day. Against this backdrop, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken an important decision.
All the patients recovered from Covid since April 1 will be contacted and inquired, whether they have any symptoms of Mucormycosis? Patients with symptoms related to this disease are being called to the PMC’s Kamla Nehru Hospital in Mangalwar Peth for examination by ear, nose, throat and eye specialist doctors. However, recognizing the growing risk of Mucormycosis disease in the city, the PMC has decided to conduct a door-to-door survey from June 1 of citizens who have recovered from COVID19.
According to PMC, till now 19 people have died in the city due to this disease and the health department has started this search campaign to prevent further deaths and to provide timely treatment to the patients. Meanwhile, the municipal corporation has so far contacted 2,000 citizens who have recovered from Covid and inquired about their symptoms. However, it has been found that the number of people with these symptoms is negligible.
PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar said that separate arrangements have been made at Sassoon hospital near Pune station and Dalvi Hospital in Shivajinagar for the treatment of Mucormycosis. Tenders are being issued for the procurement of injections required for the treatment of this disease.
