Pune: PMC To Recover Unpaid Flat Rents Of Rs 3 Crore From People

Pune, November 2, 2020: While new constructions are underway, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stalled the contracts of 1079 flats under ‘R7’ due to non-payment of rent by the tenants on time.
In order to recover the rent, the civic body has initiated a campaign. As a result of this campaign, Rs 24.95 lakh has been deposited in October.
What are R7 flats?
R7 flats have been allotted to the citizens affected by the widening of roads. For this, PMC charges a meagre rent of Rs 450 per month. However, the contracts for these flats have not been signed for the last 10-15 years.
According to officials, there are a total of 67 such buildings, and many tenants have not even considered paying the rent. As a result, the rent dues have reached Rs 3 crore.
Rajendra Muthe, PMC Deputy Commissioner, Estate Management, has taken serious note of this and has started issuing notices to the flat owners since September. So far, warnings have been given to 700 flat owners.
Out of these 700 owners, only 135 have deposited the rent with PMC. Considering the lockdown situation, Debtors are also being counselled, and if it is not possible to pay the amount at once, installment plans have been made.
The municipality has also undertaken a campaign to sign contracts for flats. The consent of the heirs is being taken, and the corporation aims to complete the contracts of all the apartments by November 30.
