Pune 19th Sept 2023: With an aim to improve the primary health care at the government facilities, the Pune Municipal Corporation has approved a proposal to set up 29 Ayushman Bharat Arogyavardhini Kendras in the recently merged villages. The civic body will spend Rs 6.74 for it. This will add to the healthcare facility in the city with 54 such centers already functional in various parts in the municipal corporation limits.

The decision to set up these centers aims to control future epidemic outbreaks as the civic infrastructures at majority of the cities including Pune failed to handle the increasing number of patients during the COVID pandemic. The municipal corporation has also planned to set up more such centers and polyclinics in various parts of the city in the near future. A total of 39 such centers were approved in the 2022-23 in the merged villages. The civic body has already started land acquisition to set up these centers and the acquisition is already completed for 17 such centers while work is still going on for the remaining ones.

The civic body is expanding services to the merged villages to ensure that the citizens in these villages also get the facilities that are provided to the people already living in the municipal corporation limits. The initiative to set up Ayushman Bharat Arogyavardhini Kendras is one of those attempts, said officials.
