There is a need to increase the performance of Pune city in this competition. Considering that a society is a village, efforts should be made for department-wise cleanliness.”

He urged that the manual on wet and dry waste management should be distributed to the citizens and they should be convinced that the waste can be put to good use.

The Guardian Minister also urged that such projects should be started on all the buildings of the Municipal Corporations and the people’s representatives should also take the initiative for such innovative activities. He expressed the belief that the initiative implemented by the Pune Municipal Corporation is commendable and through this, the citizens will also be encouraged to implement environment-friendly activities.

A ‘Terrace Garden’ project has been prepared on the roof of the Sinhagad Road Ward Office for the easy disposal of wet waste and to benefit the citizens. In this project, 300 kg of wet waste is being processed in 100 buckets of 30 litres each day.

Daily wet waste is brought by PMC employees and leftover vegetable and flower waste from the Vadgaon vegetable market. While digging the waste in the bucket, seven to eight holes are made in the bottom of the bucket, the bottom of the bucket is filled with a layer of bricks, coconut shells, bioculture and wet waste again with layers of biocultural wet waste and plants.

Fruit trees, flower trees and basil have also been planted in this garden. The wet waste can be digested in the bucket for up to a year and a half and the accumulated manure can be removed and replanted. Due to such a project, it is easy and easily possible for citizens to dispose of wet waste at the household or societal level. If big societies do such a project on the terrace of the building, it will be of great help to dispose of their wet waste at home.
