Pune: PMPML Bus Sparks Chaos by Driving on the Wrong Side Amid Heavy Traffic
Dehu Road, 11th August 2025: Pune’s old Mumbai–Pune Highway witnessed a dangerous traffic violation on Sunday evening when a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus driver blatantly drove onto the wrong side to bypass a traffic jam near Dehu Road.
The incident took place at Dehu Road Central Chowk, a busy intersection linking the Katraj–Dehu Road Bypass with the old highway. Weekend crowds returning from Lonavala and other northern Pune tourist spots had already choked the road, creating a slow-moving bottleneck.
The video footage shows the bus driver spotting a gap in the central divider and steering the vehicle directly into the opposite lane to escape the congestion. Witnesses reported that this reckless act set off a chain reaction — several other motorists followed the bus, also driving against the flow of traffic.
Locals pointed out that the old Mumbai–Pune Highway is notorious for its weekend rush and unpredictable traffic patterns, making such behaviour highly dangerous. This manoeuvre not only endangered passengers aboard the bus but also posed serious risks to oncoming vehicles and the driver himself.
