Pune Police Cyber Cell Helps Man Get Back Rs 3 Lakh Transferred From His Account By Fraudster

Pune, 14th July 2021: The officials from the Cyber Police Station of Pune city police helped a man get back his Rs 3.07 lakh which a fraudster had transferred from his account under the pretext of helping him get a job in Dubai. Police said that the amount was taken back because the man had approached them immediately or within ‘golden hour’.
According to police, on 7th July the complainant received a call from an unknown person who offered to help him get a job at a hospital in Dubai. He got the complainant to fill an online form and asked to pay Rs 10 as a registration fee.
The fraudster sent a link and when the complainant opened the link he was asked to download ‘anydesk’ and ‘SMS Forwarder’ apps. He downloaded the apps and paid the Rs 10 registration fee. Soon the complainant realised that Rs 3.07 lakh was debited from his account.
Realising the fraud, he went to Cyber Police Station in Shivajinagar police headquarters and met Assistant Police Inspector Ganesh Pawar. Without wasting time, API Pawar corresponded with the two payment merchants and asked their nodal officers to stop the fraudulent transactions from the complainant’s account. And the amount was transferred back to the complainant’s account.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (cyber crime) Bhagyashree Navtake has appealed to people to not click on unknown links or download any app. In case of fraud, people should immediately contact the Cyber Police Station.
Cyber police appealed:
– Do not download the mobile cloning app.
– Do not open unauthorized/unknown links.
– Do not share OTP number or debit card, credit card information on mobile.
– Contact the cyber police helpline number immediately after online fraud.
– Verify the contact number from the official website when contacting customer care.
