Pune, 18th July 2023: In response to the escalating number of accidents on the Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway, the control of heavy vehicles’ speed in the area has been deemed crucial. With the authority vested in him by the Government of Maharashtra, Vijay Kumar Magar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, Pune, has issued the final speed limit orders for all types of heavy vehicles between Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge on the Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway.

To enhance road safety, a maximum speed limit of 40 km/hour has been established for all heavy vehicles traveling within the designated stretch between Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge on the Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway. This speed limit has been implemented after considering the objections and suggestions received from various stakeholders.

The decision to impose the speed limit comes as a response to the numerous accidents that have occurred on this particular stretch, primarily attributed to overspeeding. By mandating a reduced speed limit, authorities aim to mitigate the risks associated with high-speed heavy vehicle traffic in the area, ensuring safer travel for all commuters.

In the past nine years from 2014 to April 2023, a total of 84 deaths, 235 injuries, 215 accidents, and 165 cases of damage to vehicles have been reported in this area.
