Yerwada, 24th May 2024: Police Inspector (PI) Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector (API) Vishwanath Todkari, attached to Yerwada Police Station, have been suspended for irresponsible behavior and carelessness in the Porsche accident case.

After the accident, the two officers reached the spot in Kalyani Nagar but did not inform the police control room about the incident, according to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. “If they had informed the control room, the night round DCP could have been alerted, but the inspectors didn’t do that. After the accident some people assaulted the accused, he should have been taken to the hospital instead of police station. His blood sample for alcohol test could have been taken,” Kumar said.

Around 2:30 am on May 19, a Porsche car driven by a 17-year-old driver, who was returning after partying at two pubs where he had consumed liquor, hit a bike from behind, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals. The incident took place near Landmark Garden society on Kalyani Nagar – Airport road.

There were lapses from the beginning, as initially the FIR was registered for an offense under section 304A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Later, the more stringent section 304 (culpable homicide) was added.

Additionally, at the police station, some officers tried to portray that builder Vishal Agarwal’s driver was driving the Porsche car instead of his minor son. However, friends of the deceased and other witnesses opposed this, forcing the cops to register a case against the teen driver.
