Pune, May 22, 2021: Private Covid Centers, which have not taken adequate safety measures for Covid patients, are likely to be shut down. However, the centres which have treatment facilities will be set up to admit critically ill patients to the hospital on time.
Some private Covid centres in the city have not entered into agreements with hospitals for the treatment of critically ill patients.
Rajendra Muthe, chairman of the vigilance committee of the Pune municipal corporation (PMC), has pointed out to the health department that this could endanger the lives of the patients. Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has directed the health department to inspect the Covid Center, which has given permission and is treating patients.
“In other cities in the state, care is being taken in case of accidents at treatment places. Given the rate at which patients are admitted for treatment, there is a lack of patient safety measures. It is recommended not to seek treatment in such covid centres”, Muthe said.
As the Covid patients were rising in the city, organizations and medical experts came together and started the Covid Care Center. Oxygen beds are made available from it. However, the centre management complained to the municipal corporation that oxygen and ‘Remdesivir’ injections were not available even though the number of patients for treatment had increased. In some centres, patients were feared to run out of oxygen at any moment. The corporation had planned to relocate the patients to such centres. Against this background, the vigilance committee has pointed out that most of the centres do not have the required adequate facilities.
