Pune: Regional Office Akurdi Pune-II Appeals Employers To Register On Principal Employer Portal

Pune, 18th October 2022: Regional Office Akurdi Pune-II made an appeal to stakeholders and employers to register themselves on Principal Employer Portal and also register their contractor details or encourage the contractor to update their detail on the principal Employer Portal of EPFO and make use of it for ensuring compliance with your contractors in respect of all contract workers and avail their benefit.

The Employees’ Provident Funds and Misc. Provisions Act 1952 (the Act for brevity) provides social security benefits in the nature of Provident Funds and Pension and Life Insurance coverage to the employees of the covered establishment.

Being a principal employer, one can engage workers through contractors for various office work, including watch and ward, housekeeping/cleaning and maintenance, and others. In all such instances, the principal employer’s liability due under the Act is being paid by the principal employer to the contractor concerned, and the contractors are required to report EPF compliance in r/o Universal Account Number (UAN) of their workers through ECR. From 4th March 2021, an electronic facility is deployed on EPFO’s Unified Portal: https://unifiedportal emp.epfindia.gov.in/epfo/ for Principal Employers to view EPF compliance of their Contractors and contract workers registered with EPFO. Even the principal employers like Govt. departments and undertakings, which are not statutorily covered with EPFO, can register on the above Portal with their Income Tax TAN to use the facility and add their contractors and UANs of contract workers. This facilitates the principal employer to view UAN-wise remittances made by contractors through ECR through their Login.
