Dhayari, 22nd October 2023: A tense altercation took place in the Chandrama Society area of Dhayari, DSK Vishwa, over the feeding of stray dogs, leading to the registration of a case against Mohini Paithankar/Kulkarni, a local police officer. She allegedly assaulted Manisha Pawar, a long-time animal welfare activist, and tried to stop her from feeding the stray dogs in the area.

The incident caught the attention of former minister and animal activist Maneka Gandhi, who has since reached out to the senior police officers, demanding an immediate investigation into the matter.

Manisha has been actively involved in feeding stray dogs across various parts of Pune city. She has been providing food to the canines to prevent accidents and loss of innocent lives caused by the dogs’ quest for food.

According to the complaint filed by her, Paithankar/Kulkarni assaulted her and attempted to strangle her while she was carrying out her regular food distribution activity for the stray dogs. The complaint was registered at the Haveli Police Station, under IPC sections 323, 506, and 427, which relate to causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and causing damage to property.

“Senior officials have been informed of the incident, and a detailed report has been sent to the Superintendent of Police (Pune rural). Further action will be taken as per the directives from senior authorities,” said Sachin Wangde, Police Inspector at Haveli Police Station.
