Pune: Sassoon Hospital To Add 1,000 More Beds, New Hospital Plan Submitted
Pune, 22nd June 2021: Renowned architect Christopher Charles Benninger based in Pune has mapped a design for state-run Sassoon General Hospital.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar gave his approval to this mega project and the construction of the hospital will be implemented phase-wise in the next 10 years.
According to a report of The Indian Express, this entire project is estimated to cost Rs 700 crores. However, for the first phase of the construction, Pawar has agreed to allocate Rs 100 crore.
The new design plan includes the vertical construction and will bow to the highest structural safety standards, and will be designed in a way creating fire fighting access and corridors for emergency exit in case of a fire.
This ambitious redevelopment project is designed keeping in view to increase the capacity of the hospital by another 1,000 beds. At present, the hospital has 1300 beds. This mega project is seen as an investment in the health sector for the next 100 years.
The renowned architect Benninger took three months to design the master plan which has been submitted to the state government.
Sassoon General Hospital was started in the 1860s. It is one of the oldest hospitals in India. The hospital includes heritage buildings that need to be preserved and other buildings can be revamped and some can be demolished. The new design will have more parking spaces and build more hostel facilities for PG medical students, doctors and nurses students.
