Pune, 4th June 2025: The historic Lal Mahal in Pune is set to host a deeply symbolic and inclusive celebration of the Shivrajyabhishek — the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj — on 6th June 2025 at 9:30 AM. Departing from tradition, this year’s ceremony will centre not around political leaders or celebrities, but families who have borne the brunt of social injustice and personal loss.

Organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Shiv Mahotsav Samiti, in collaboration with the Maratha Seva Sangh and other Shivpremi organisations, the event seeks to renew the original values of Swarajya and justice as envisioned by Rashtramata Jijau and Shahajiraje.

“Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation on 6th June 1674 was not just the beginning of a new reign — it was the fulfilment of a dream rooted in self-rule, dignity, and equity,” said the organising committee. “This year, we are choosing to honour that legacy not through glamour, but through acknowledgment of those whose lives echo the very battles Shivaji Maharaj stood for.”

Honouring Silent Sufferers

Families attending as chief guests include:
Parents of Vaishnavi Hagawane, a young woman who lost her life to dowry-related violence.
Relatives of Santosh Deshmukh, the late Sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed, remembered for his work in rural empowerment.
Members of the Jagdale and Ganbote families, who lost their sons in the Pulwama terror attack.

Their presence will not only elevate the emotional significance of the occasion but also place the spotlight on contemporary struggles for justice, particularly those of women, grassroots leaders, and defence personnel.

Tradition Meets Purpose
Held at Lal Mahal, a site intricately linked to Shivaji Maharaj’s formative years, the Shivrajyabhishek Sohala aims to blend historical authenticity with modern-day relevance. As part of the ritual, sacred water collected from twelve Maval rivers and forts will be used, symbolising unity and regional pride. Additionally, Indrayani river water will be used for Panchamrit, a sacred offering, accompanied by floral tributes.

Organisers have invited the public to attend and participate in the event, describing it as a “living tribute” to Shivaji Maharaj’s ideals. “This is not just a commemoration. It is a call to remember what Swarajya means today — equality, justice, and the courage to stand up against oppression,” the organisers stated.
