Pune: Slap to Nilesh Ghaywal at Fair Led to Gang War; Sagar Moholkar Dies at Sassoon Hospital
Pune, 17th March 2026: Sagar Moholkar, a known criminal from Jamkhed who was injured in a recent firing incident, died during treatment at Sassoon General Hospital on Monday, police said.
Moholkar was allegedly shot by members of the Nilesh Ghaywal gang two weeks ago in the Noorani Colony area of Jamkhed. He had sustained five bullet injuries and was undergoing treatment in Pune.
Police said Moholkar and Ghaywal, both natives of Jamkhed in Ahilyanagar district, had an old rivalry. The dispute dates back to April last year, when Moholkar allegedly slapped Ghaywal during a wrestling event at a fair in Andarud village in Dharashiv district.
In September last year, members of the Ghaywal gang allegedly opened fire in Kothrud to create panic. Following the incident, Pune Police invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Ghaywal and his associates. Ghaywal is currently believed to be in Europe, and efforts are underway to bring him back.
Moholkar had several serious criminal cases registered against him, including murder and attempt to murder. He died while undergoing treatment, officials from Bundgarden Police Station confirmed.
