Pune, 24th March 2026: The state Cabinet on Tuesday approved the development of a four-lane elevated corridor between Talegaon and Chakan, along with expansion of the stretch up to Shikrapur, in a move aimed at easing congestion in Pune district’s key industrial belt.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on Monday. Fadnavis emphasised the need to strengthen highway infrastructure to improve connectivity and support industrial growth in the region.

The project pertains to National Highway 548D and will cover the 0–26 km stretch between Talegaon and Chakan with a four-lane elevated corridor along with a parallel surface road. The 26–43 km stretch from Chakan to Shikrapur will be developed as a multi-lane surface highway. The work will be executed under the Design, Finance, Build, Operate and Transfer (DFBOT) model.

Officials said the 53.2-km-long project, estimated to cost around Rs 4,207 crore, has been awarded to Monte Carlo Ltd and is expected to be completed within four years.

The project is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the Chakan and Talegaon industrial areas, which witness heavy movement of commercial vehicles. The corridor also connects key highways, including the old Mumbai–Pune highway, Pune–Nashik highway and Pune–Ahilyanagar route.

The highway is expected to improve connectivity to industrial hubs such as Chakan, Talegaon MIDC, Shikrapur, Sanaswadi and Ranjangaon.
