Pune: Supriya Sule Demands Urgent Government Action on Hinjawadi Infrastructure Woes; Promises Action
Reported by Varad Bhatkhande
Hinjawadi, 4th July 2025: Baramati MP Supriya Sule visited Pune’s Hinjawadi area Friday (4th July) amid rising complaints about crumbling infrastructure, clogged roads, waterlogging, poor garbage disposal and traffic congestion, along with erratic water supply. Speaking at a press conference after inspecting key areas, Sule urged the Maharashtra government to take immediate steps and consider merging Hinjawadi with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
In a strong move during her visit, Sule directly made a phone call to a leading builder, Shapoorji Pallonji Group owner Shapoorji Mistry, over traffic congestion issues linked to the company’s road ownership near their Joyville project. Residents alleged that Pathak Road, which is partially owned by the builder, is in poor condition due to the non-handover to government authorities. Sule relayed these complaints and received a verbal assurance of action.
Sule also participated in the Gram Sabha of Hinjawadi and met with Sarpanchs from nearby villages, who flagged red-alert zones and highlighted the gravity of the crisis. “For years I have urged the state government to appoint a competent and independent body to manage Rajiv Gandhi IT Park. Many stakeholders believe merging Hinjawadi with PCMC is the right step,” she said, adding that she has requested the Chief Minister to convene a stakeholder meeting immediately.
She further criticized the state’s neglect, saying, “When Pawar Saheb initiated this IT Park, infrastructure was excellent for the first 10 years. But in the last 5-6 years, chaos has taken over.” Sule promised to increase her visits to twice a month until the issues are resolved and called on the state to ensure accountability, given the significant revenue Hinjawadi generates.
Sule flagged pending projects by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
Supriya Sule also revealed that a request has been made to the Industry Minister for a meeting next week. She noted that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is expected to hold a review meeting on Saturday (5th July). She urged that all stakeholders be present to provide ground-level feedback and chart out actionable solutions.
