Pune: Symbiosis Law School, Pune wins P.N. Bhagwati International Moot Court Competition

Pune, 28th March 2025: The valedictory ceremony of the 13th Justice P.N. Bhagwati International Moot Court Competition on Human Rights, 2025 was held at Bharati Vidyapeeth New Law College. The team from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, emerged as the winners, with National Law University, Nagpur, securing the runner-up position.The esteemed panel of chief guests for the valedictory ceremony comprised distinguished dignitaries including Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Supreme Court of India; Justice R. M. S. Rajakaruna, Supreme Court of Sri Lanka; Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, High Court of Delhi; Justice Devan Ramachandran, High
Court of Kerala; Justice Siddhartha Varma, High Court of Allahabad; and Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain, Retired Judge, High Court of Delhi.
Competition held under the guidance of Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shivaji Rao Kadam, Dr. Vishwajit Kadam, Secretary & Pro-Vice Chancellor, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vivek Saoji, Registrar G. JayaKumar, Dean & Principal Dr. Ujwala Bendale, Vice Principal Dr. Jyoti Dharma, IQAC coordinator Dr. Vidya Dhere, and Faculty Co-ordinator Prof. Dr. Shivangi Sinha. The valedictory ceremony held on 22nd March 2025 at Erandwane campus.
The grand culmination of this prestigious event took place on March 22nd, 2025, marking the conclusion of three days filled with profound legal discourse and advocacy. With the distinguished presence of 32 national and international teams representing esteemed institutions, the event showcased the pinnacle of legal intellect grappling with pressing human rights issues.
The team from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, emerged as the winners, with National Law University, Nagpur, securing the runner-up position. The Best International Team award was conferred upon National Law College, Nepal. Additionally, ILS Law College was honoured with the Best Memorial award, while Nisha Adhikari of National Law College, Nepal, received the Best Researcher award. The Best Speaker award was presented to Ayush Kumar Jha, Llyod Law College.
The distinguished panel of dignitaries delivered profound speeches, emphasizing the paramount importance of human rights advocacy and the pivotal role of law students in championing them. Their presence added gravitas to the event, and their discerning judgment upheld the integrity of the competition.
Following arduous semifinal rounds, two teams ascended as finalists, eloquently presenting their arguments before the esteemed five-judge bench. The august panel comprised Justice R. M. S. Rajakaruna, Supreme Court of Sri Lanka; Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, High Court of Delhi; Justice Devan Ramachandran, High Court of Kerala; Justice Siddhartha Varma, High Court of Allahabad; and Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain, Retired Judge, High Court of Delhi. Their collective wisdom ensured an impartial and thorough evaluation of the participants’ performances.
The valedictory ceremony served as a fitting tribute to the dedication, perseverance, and legal acumen demonstrated by all the participants, and it marked the beginning of a new chapter in their journey towards excellence in the field of law.
