Pune, 3rd April 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has prioritized setting up charging centers for electric vehicles in municipal buildings in collaboration with private organizations. The decision was taken in line with the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2021, which aims to prioritize the use of electric vehicles.

The municipal corporation has established an Electric Vehicle Cell to provide instructions and hold regular meetings with various entities. As the number of electric vehicles in the city is increasing, the municipality is taking proactive measures to address potential charging-related issues in the future.

The charging centers will be set up at 82 locations across the city. Private organizations will be given space in municipal buildings to set up two and four-wheeler charging stations, and one vehicle can be queued. The Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation approved the proposal to set up the charging stations. After the completion of the tender process, the relevant centers will be established.

The companies responsible for the charging centers will bear the power connection and maintenance costs. Drivers will pay a per-unit fee for the electricity used for charging. After deducting the cost of electricity and maintenance repairs, half of the profit received by the company will be given to the municipal corporation.

The initiative is expected to encourage the use of electric vehicles and reduce the carbon footprint in the city. The move will provide a significant boost to the development of electric vehicle infrastructure in Pune.
