Pune, 15th November 2023: Harpreet Singh Saluja, the President of Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), has penned a formal complaint to Bhupender Yadav, Minister of State for Labour & Employment, highlighting what he claims to be unethical transfer practices by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

In the complaint dated November 15, Saluja asserts that TCS has been systematically compelling employees to relocate between cities without sufficient notice or consultation. This alleged pattern of abrupt transfers is causing significant distress to the affected employees and their families, as they are uprooted from their homes and communities.

TCS, one of India’s prominent IT companies, is accused of informing employees about their transfer to Mumbai via email, citing “business requirements” without providing specific details. Employees are reportedly given a two-week deadline to report to their new location and are required to arrange and bear the costs of their travel and accommodation, with reimbursement promised by the company.

Saluja contends that TCS’s actions are unethical and violate labor laws, as the company fails to provide valid reasons for the transfers and denies employees a fair opportunity to object or propose alternative solutions. Additionally, the financial burden placed on employees by requiring them to arrange their own travel and accommodation is deemed unjust.
The alleged consequences of TCS’s transfer practices include financial hardship, family disruption, and heightened stress and anxiety among the affected employees.

NITES has called upon the Ministry of Labour and Employment to promptly investigate TCS’s transfer practices and take appropriate action against the company. Saluja also requested the formulation of new policies and regulations to safeguard IT workers from what he deems unethical transfer practices.
