Pune Traffic Diversion Alert for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on Friday
Pune, 5th March 2026: In anticipation of the massive processions scheduled for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, the Pune City Traffic Police Department has announced comprehensive traffic diversions in the central parts of the city. These changes will come into effect on Friday, March 6, 2026, starting from 7:00 AM and will remain in place until the processions conclude.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Himat Jadhav, issued the notification to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow. Major roads expected to see heavy congestion include Laxmi Road, Shivaji Road, Bajirao Road, Kelkar Road, and several routes within the Lashkar (Camp) traffic division, such as M.G. Road and East Street.
Key Traffic Diversions:
Shivaji Road & Bajirao Road: Vehicles traveling from Jijamata Chowk to Swargate via Shivaji Road will be diverted through S.G. Barve Chowk, Jungli Maharaj (JM) Road, and Tilak Road.
Laxmi Road: As processions move toward Sonya Maruti Chowk, traffic on Laxmi Road will be diverted toward Sant Kabir Chowk.
Ganesh Road: Traffic from Daruwala Pul toward Phadke Haud Chowk will be redirected.
Appa Balwant Chowk: Traffic moving toward Budhwar Chowk will be diverted through Jogeshwari Mandir Lane.
Lashkar (Camp) Area: Significant changes are planned for the Camp area. Traffic from Golibar Maidan toward M.G. Road will be stopped at Y-Junction and diverted toward Khane Maruti Chowk. Similar diversions will be active near Mofatlal Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, and Sarbatwala Chowk.
Important Instructions for Citizens:
Emergency Vehicles: These diversions do not apply to essential service vehicles, including fire brigade and ambulances.
Procession Routes: Once the processions reach Gadgil Statue, vehicles will be diverted via Savarkar Bhavan Bridge and Balgandharva side instead of Shaniwar Wada.
Commuter Advice: The police have urged citizens to avoid the central city areas unless absolutely necessary and to use the suggested alternative routes to minimize delays.
The administration has requested the cooperation of all residents to ensure a peaceful and disciplined celebration.
