Pune, 12th June 2023: Two Bangladeshi nationals, who were previously convicted of theft and had completed their sentences, managed to escape from the premises of Sinhagad police station under Pune City Police. The police have filed a case against them under the Foreigners Act.

The Special Branch had initiated the necessary procedures to repatriate the individuals to Bangladesh. The police had reached out to the Bangladesh High Commission for assistance in this matter. However, due to the lack of response from the Commission, the individuals had been residing at the police station for the past seven months. On June 7, both individuals took advantage of a moment of opportunity and fled from the police station.

In a similar incident from seven years ago, Pune police had apprehended a Pakistani spy. The police had initiated the process to deport the individual back to Pakistan. However, during that time, the Pakistani national managed to escape from the Sahakarnagar police station.

Efforts are now underway to locate the escaped Bangladeshi nationals, and the police are coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure their safe return. The incident has raised concerns about the security measures in place at police stations, prompting authorities to review and strengthen the existing protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
