Pune, 28th July 2023: Savitribai Phule Pune University has implemented a special inspection campaign within its college premises to tackle the increasing popularity of e-cigarettes among young students. The aim is to curb the usage of these electronic devices, which have gained popularity alongside traditional cigarettes. Despite the central government’s 2019 ban on the production, sale, and use of e-cigarettes, they continue to be available through online platforms and local stores.

The Directorate of Higher Education has expressed concern over the accessibility of e-cigarettes on college campuses, leading students into addiction. Consequently, they have directed educational institutions, including universities and colleges, to take effective measures to prevent their use.

Responding promptly to the directive, the Registrar of Savitribai Phule Pune University, Dr. Prafulla Pawar, has issued a circular instructing all colleges and educational institutions under the university’s umbrella to enforce strict measures against the sale and use of e-cigarettes within their premises.
