Pune: Vision@50 Initiative to Propel Pimpri Chinchwad into a Smart, Sustainable City

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 3rd March 2025: As Pimpri Chinchwad gears up to complete 50 years in 2032, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched the Vision@50 initiative to shape the city’s future as a digitally advanced, world-class urban center. To kickstart this ambitious plan, PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, Additional Commissioners, City Engineer, Chief Engineers, and department heads participated in a two-day strategic workshop at Garud Machi near Tamhini, where they discussed key urban challenges, infrastructure planning, and governance strategies.

Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized that Vision@50 will serve as a guiding framework to modernize the city with advanced technology, efficient urban planning, and citizen participation. “The city must develop high-quality infrastructure while keeping future needs in mind. The world is advancing rapidly with AI and digital technologies, and urban governance must evolve accordingly. This workshop will help us create a roadmap for a more efficient, smart, and citizen-friendly city,” he stated.

The workshop brought together senior officials, including Additional Commissioners Pradip Jambhale Patil, Vijaykumar Khorate, and Chandrakant Indalkar, along with City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Chief Engineers Sanjay Kulkarni and Pramod Ombhase, Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Pravin Jain, Chief Auditor Pramod Bhosale, Deputy Director of Town Planning Prasad Gaikwad, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Laxman Gophane, Additional Medical Officer of Health Dr. Abhaychandra Dadewar, YCMH Dean Dr. Rajendra Wabale, and various executive engineers, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, and ward officers. Experts provided insights into urban governance, sustainable development, and infrastructure planning.

Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized that PCMC’s priority is to build a city with robust infrastructure while addressing evolving citizen needs. “The municipal administration must integrate modern technology at all levels to enhance efficiency. This workshop is a crucial step in planning future infrastructure and public services while ensuring timely and high-quality civic amenities,” he said.

While developing urban infrastructure, he stressed that the city’s cultural identity, arts, sports, and heritage must be preserved. To ensure inclusive planning, PCMC is organizing stakeholder consultations with citizens, experts, and public representatives to gather inputs for the Vision@50 policy. A dedicated urban development blueprint will be created, incorporating government recommendations and stakeholder feedback.

Deputy Commissioner Vitthal Joshi emphasizing the importance of sustainable urban development, said, “A well-planned city ensures holistic growth. By leveraging modern technology, Pimpri Chinchwad can strengthen its position as an industrial hub while evolving into a truly smart city. The municipal corporation is committed to full digital transformation, ensuring seamless service delivery to residents.”

He further added, “Workshops like these allow us to gather insights from diverse stakeholders, including builders, business leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs. Their suggestions will shape the city’s policies until 2032. The discussions from this workshop will play a crucial role in defining Pimpri Chinchwad’s sustainable development path.”

PCMC aims to integrate best practices from national and international cities into the Vision@50 framework, ensuring sustainable growth, climate resilience, and digital transformation. The insights gained from this workshop will directly influence future policy-making and infrastructure planning, laying the foundation for Pimpri Chinchwad’s next phase of development.
