Pune, 14th February 2024: Taking a big step towards making schools better, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is actively working on the Adarsh School Scheme to upgrade facilities in PMC schools. This year, they included 30 schools in the scheme, and work on 15 of them is already done. The tender process for these 15 schools is finished, and the plan is to extend the scheme to 15 more schools in the 2024-25 budget.

PMC manages 284 schools that teach in Marathi, English, Urdu, and Kannada, catering to around 90 thousand students. Unfortunately, the current condition of PMC schools is not great, affecting the quality of education they can provide.

Understanding the importance of giving students a better experience and creating a positive school environment, PMC is working on making schools more beautiful and improving overall quality. They picked 15 schools for a pilot project, taking inspiration from schools in Delhi, Pimpri Chinchwad, and other cities. Collaborating with social organizations has been crucial for this initiative.

The first phase, involving 15 model schools, has made significant progress, with most of the planned work already completed. Now, in the second phase, the tender process for another 15 schools has started and is expected to be approved soon, paving the way for more improvements.

Vikas Dhakne, Additional Commissioner of PMC, said, “The Adarsh School scheme was implemented in 30 PMC schools this year, and students will start benefiting from the improved facilities in the academic year 2025. We plan to replicate this success in 15 more schools, with provisions in the upcoming budget to continue our commitment to improving education standards.”
