Revised Fines for Illegal Parking In Pimpri Chinchwad: Rs 736 for Two-Wheelers, Rs 972 for Four-Wheelers

Pimpri, 7th December 2024: In a bid to curb rising traffic congestion caused by illegal parking, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police have launched a towing van initiative. Vehicles parked in no-parking zones or obstructing traffic will be towed, and the owners will have to pay a fine, including Goods and Services Tax (GST). Two-wheelers will face a penalty of ₹736, while four-wheelers will be fined ₹972.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bapu Bangar, stated that the initiative aims to streamline traffic and ensure smoother vehicular movement across the city. “Drivers must adhere to parking regulations. Action will be taken against those violating these rules,” he said.
Pimpri-Chinchwad, home to industrial hubs like Chakan, Bhosari, and Talegaon, as well as IT parks in Hinjewadi and Talawade, is plagued by heavy traffic. The region also has popular pilgrimage sites in Dehu and Alandi, along with bustling markets, educational institutions, and commercial centers. The growing number of vehicles, coupled with indiscriminate parking, has added to the city’s traffic woes.
Illegal parking—on roads, in no-parking zones, and on open spaces—has become a common practice. The transport department has pledged to take stringent action to address this issue.
For Two-Wheelers: ₹500 fine + ₹200 towing charge + ₹36 GST = ₹736
For Four-Wheelers: ₹500 fine + ₹400 towing charge + ₹72 GST = ₹972
The new fine structure is aimed at deterring illegal parking. In addition, traffic police will verify if the vehicle has any outstanding challans. Vehicle owners will be required to clear at least one pending challan along with the fine for the current violation.
Previously, a uniform fine of ₹776 was levied, regardless of the vehicle type. The revised fines now differentiate between two-wheelers and four-wheelers for more targeted enforcement.
Authorities have urged citizens to park responsibly and avoid blocking traffic. This enforcement drive, facilitated by towing vans, is expected to bring much-needed relief to the city’s congested streets.
