Viman Nagar, 22nd September 2025: Security officials at Pune Airport recovered a revolver and five live cartridges from the bag of a former Zilla Parishad member on Friday night, triggering a police case under the Arms Act.

The incident involved Chandrakant Prabhakar Bagal (63), a resident of Gadegaon, Pandharpur, who was scheduled to travel from Pune to Varanasi by flight. During routine baggage screening, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and Airport Authority staff detected the firearm and ammunition in his luggage. The weapon and cartridges were immediately seized.

Bagal, a civil contractor, had previously contested the Pandharpur Assembly elections on a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket in 2014, though he was unsuccessful.

Following the incident, a case was registered against him at the Airport Police Station under Section 30 of the Arms Act. During questioning, it was revealed that Bagal held a firearm license valid only within Maharashtra, which did not permit him to carry the weapon outside the state.

Sources said Bagal was released after being served a notice, while further investigation is underway.
