New Delhi, 15th September 2022: The Supreme Court of India delivered crucial statements on Thursday on the allowance of hijab in educational institutions. The Supreme Court pointed to the rules – educational institutions have the authority to decide on the dress code and uniform. The issue is still being discussed and will continue till Monday.

According to the Supreme Court, “The rules say that educational institutions have the right to prescribe uniforms.” Similarly, the school in Karnataka has been taking the same side from where the case erupted.

One of the petitioners cited an increment in dropouts due to the Hijab ban, especially among female students. Upon this, the SC bench with Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia asked for “verifiable data.”

Several complaints are registered in the top court against the Verdict of the Karnataka HC. On 15th March, the High Court held up a judgment saying ‘wearing a hijab is not a part of the important practice of the religion’. After this verdict, the matter has now been brought to the SC. The SC denied drawing parallel lines between the Sikhs and Muslims. The SC stated that the Sikhs have ‘The Five K’s’ which makes it permissible for them to wear turbans and kirpans.
