Srinagar Blast: Nine Killed, 29 Injured in Massive Explosion at Nowgam Police Station
Srinagar, 15th November 2025: A massive explosion tore through the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, late Friday night, killing nine people, including a tehsildar and an inspector. The blast occurred around 11:22 pm, leaving the police station completely devastated. Officials said the remaining bodies are yet to be identified due to severe burns and dismemberment.
Twenty-nine injured personnel—most of them policemen—are undergoing treatment at the 92 Army Base Hospital and SKIMS Soura. Several are reported to be in critical condition.
According to officials, the explosion took place while police teams were handling and collecting samples of explosives seized in the ongoing investigation into a white-collar terrorist module. Authorities are still trying to determine whether all 360 kg of explosives recovered in the case were stored at the police station or if only a portion had been brought in for examination.
The seized explosives were recovered from the rented house of Dr. Muzammil Ganai, who was arrested in Faridabad, Haryana. Ganai is also an accused in the recent Delhi blast case. On November 10, a car bomb blast near the Red Fort claimed 13 lives, and investigators believe the two cases may be connected.
Local resident Shafad Ahmed, describing the terrifying moment, said, “Around 11:20 pm, there was a huge explosion. We were shaken. My relatives live near the police station. I haven’t been able to talk to them. The security personnel are not allowing us to meet them. I’ve never heard such a powerful explosion in my life.”
The force of the blast scattered body parts into nearby residential areas, with some remains found 100 to 200 meters away. Investigators and forensic teams continued operations through the night, combing the damaged structures and surrounding houses for evidence.
Authorities are expected to issue an official statement once identification of the deceased is completed. The incident has heightened security concerns in the region, with additional forces deployed around the area.
