New Delhi, 5th July 2023: In recent years, the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Republic of India have forged notable progress in multiple realms of collaboration. These include the domains of economics and trade, science and technology, critical supply chains, culture, education, and traditional medicine. To further enhance the exchanges and collaboration between the two countries, the Taiwan government intends to establish the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in Mumbai.

Since the establishment of the TECC in Chennai in 2012, a substantial majority of Taiwanese businesses investing and establishing factories in India have chosen to operate in the southern region, specifically in and around Chennai. As a result, Chennai and its surrounding areas have greatly benefited from the investments made by Taiwanese manufacturing industries. The establishment of the TECC in Mumbai is anticipated to have a similar positive impact on the western part of India.

India achieved the status of the world’s fifth-largest economy in 2022 and is currently the most populous nation globally. With its vast market and associated business prospects, India has emerged as a prominent investment destination for global enterprises. Mumbai, India’s largest city and a major financial hub with the largest port in the country, has attracted consulates from numerous countries, including the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

The Mumbai TECC is set to assume a crucial role in facilitating the growth of mutually advantageous trade and investment prospects between Taiwan and India. It will also align with Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy to foster exchanges and cooperation in science and technology, education, culture, and people-to-people ties between Taiwan and Western India. Moreover, the Mumbai TECC will provide a range of services including visa assistance, document authentication, and emergency support to individuals such as business professionals, tourists, and Taiwanese citizens residing in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, as well as the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

To ensure efficient services and support, the TECC in Mumbai will work closely with the TECC in India and the TECC in Chennai, collectively providing high-quality assistance to Taiwanese nationals and overseas compatriots.
