Telangana: No money, migrant labourer tries to sell his two-month-old boy

Hyderabad, May 27, 2020: Amid the stringent lockdown, migrant labourers have been stranded in different parts of the country. Impoverished, struck by poverty a migrant labourer decided to sell his two-month-old baby boy for mere Rs 22000, this happened in Telangana on Sunday.

Madan Kumar Singh (32), his wife Sarita (30) and the middle man who worked at a construction site have been arrested before the transaction could even happen. Under the guidance of Balanagar Deputy Commissioner of Police PV Padmaja Reddy, this arrest was possible.

This couple moved from Uttar Pradesh to Hyderabad 10 years ago in search of shelter and employment. Police said that Singh is addicted to alcohol and started harassing Sarita for money after the liquor store had opened. The couple also has a seven-year-old boy. Sarita also confessed that she was forced to sign the agreement.

The president of Child Rights Association, Andhra Pradesh has requested the state government to help the labourers in terms of rendering the daily wages to them.

However, the police were informed when Seshu, the middleman took the baby for medical test to complete the transaction and handing it over to the buyer. The action was taken against all of them; consequently, both the children are now under the care of a government-run shelter.
