Three Women From Pune Assaulted And Mentally Tortured By Employer In Saudi Arabia, Rescued By State Women Commission With Indian Embassy’s Help

Pune 18th Sept 2023: The Maharashtra State Commission For Women has successfully brought back three women to the city with the help of Indian Embassy after they were stranded in Saudi Arabia following mental torture and physical assault by an employer. The women from Ambedkarnagar area of Market Yard had gone to Saudi Arabia with hope to get a good salary.
The women were offered job as domestic help by agents from Mumbai. They were promised a salary of Rs 35,000 per month. However, after reaching there they were physically assaulted and mentally tortured by the employer after refusing to work. The women alleged that the employer later did not pay them salaries and they were left to starve without food and water.
The agents also kept giving them assurances to send them back to India after which they contacted the Maharashtra State Women Commission for help. The state women commission forwarded the matter to the External Affairs Ministry and the women were rescued with the help of Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
The chairperson of Maharashtra State Women Commission Rupali Chakankar had earlier this year shared details of women who had gone missing from the state. Many of these women left their homes in search of job abroad were subjected to harassment by their employers. The State Women Commission has appealed such women to contact them via e mail or the helpline number 1091 to get help.
