Pune, 30th September 2025: Multiple passengers have raised serious hygiene-related concerns in the Pune Railway Division over the month of September, citing unsanitary conditions in trains and at Pune station. Complaints reported included overflowing toilets, rodent sightings, unclean platforms, and dirty bedding.

Key Passenger Complaints Filed in September

On September 29, a passenger traveling on Train No. 11040 Maharashtra Express, Coach S7, reported overflowing toilets and a foul smell during the journey. The passenger requested immediate cleaning at the train’s next halt.

On September 25, visuals surfaced showing garbage accumulation on the platforms at Pune station, described as a “pathetic condition.” The post questioned the implementation of cleanliness drives under the Swachh Bharat campaign.

On September 20, a traveler aboard Train No. 12158 Hutatma Express, Coach D2, reported a rodent infestation. The complaint raised concerns about the potential hygiene and health risks posed by rats seen moving freely inside the coach.

Another complaint on September 15 detailed the use of unclean bed sheets and pillows in an AC coach of Train No. 11078 Jhelum Express. The passenger alleged that the linens provided were unhygienic and unfit for use.

Earlier in the month, on September 8, a passenger on Train No. 11038 Pune-Gorakhpur Express, Coach S3, reported filthy washrooms with no running water, citing clogged toilets and an overpowering stench affecting onboard comfort.

Railways’ Response

In all instances, the Indian Railways’ customer service team responded by acknowledging the complaints and requesting PNR details through direct message. The issues were reportedly escalated to the Pune Division, and passengers were advised to use the RailMadad portal or the 139 helpline for further assistance.
