Pune, 7th February 2026: Students from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT), Pune, have clinched the top honour in the Electric Vehicle (EV) category at Formula Bharat 2026, one of India’s premier engineering design competitions. The national-level event was held at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, from January 21 to 26.

Competing against nearly 60 teams from leading institutions including IIT Bombay, IIT Madras and various NITs, Team Veloce Racing Electric from VIT stood out with its technical performance and consistency across events. Formula Bharat is an annual competition where university students design, build and test formula-style race cars, giving them real-world engineering exposure.

Veloce Racing Electric was the first team to clear all technical inspections at the event. In the dynamic rounds, the team secured second place in the Skidpad event, first place in the 75-metre acceleration challenge with a timing of 4.9 seconds, and another first in the Autocross event. Based on overall performance, the team was declared the winner in the EV dynamics category and awarded the Green Shield trophy.

With this win, VIT Pune’s team also emerged as the overall champions in the electric category of Formula Bharat 2026. The achievement highlights the growing capability of Indian engineering students in advanced automotive and electric vehicle technologies.

Team leader Om Jathar said the victory reflects the potential of students from emerging institutes. “Our performance shows that with the right training and industry exposure, Indian students can meet global engineering standards,” he said.

The success of Veloce Racing India is being seen as a positive signal for India’s EV ecosystem, underlining the country’s readiness to become a major hub for electric vehicle innovation and manufacturing in the coming years.
