Mohammadwadi, 31st January 2022: Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar announced on 29th January that schools and colleges in Pune will reopen from February 1.

He announced, “Schools and colleges will reopen in Pune district from February 1. For classes 1 to 8, the school timings will be half of the regular timings, but for classes 9 to 10, the school will run as per the regular schedule. Colleges will also function as per regular time.”

However, the decision of reopening the offline conduct of schools was not well received by parents particularly the parents from Delhi Public School (DPS), Pune as many parents are unwilling to send their children to school in the backdrop of the Coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic.

Like all schools in Pune, DPS decided to go with the order given by the state government to reopen schools from February 1. But the school did not follow the orders properly as mentioned by the administration.

He said, “Consent from parents will be required to attend the school.”

There have been several complaints from parents that the DPS is forcing them to send their children to attend schools by closing the option for online education without a notice.

According to a parent from the DPS, parents are panicking as the schools have reopened in these unprecedented times. There is no other option like online classes for DPS students. If they don’t give the consent for their ward to attend offline classes then their children will miss out on their studies. All the parents are forced to send their children to school due to the fear of their educational loss. By doing this, they are risking the lives of their children.

Concerned parents of DPS have expressed their worries through Twitter in hopes that this situation will be solved soon.

One parent tweeted, “DPS Pune is providing no option for the online conduct of classes. Kids and family members are not well and are unable to attend offline classes. The emails regarding the conduct of hybrid classes sent by parents are being ignored by school officials. We request the school to offer hybrid classes.”

An email sent by DPS to parents states that all the students must bring an application duly signed by the parents stating the consent for allowing their ward/s to report to school.

“A consent is relevant when there is an option to say no without any adverse impacts. @VarshaEGaikwad, #DPSPune is forcing parents to give consent to offline classes without even giving an option of #HybridSchooling. What is the use of such consent,” tweeted another parent.

Another parent showed their distress by tweeting, “Many parents are forced to sign a consent form as online classes stopped.”

Note: This report will be updated after getting response from DPS.
